The Cheeseburger Rain is the first instance of food weather produced by the FLDSMDFR.
Background
Flint Lockwood dreamed of helping his hometown of Swallow Falls. Stuck eating the sardines that used to be the island's staple export, the town fell into despair from a "gray and flavorless" existence. In response, Flint created the FLDSMDFR to convert water molecules into a wide variety of tasty food.
A mishap with Flint's attempts to power the machine sent it rocketing into the sky, where it was thought to have been lost.
Meatier Shower
Suspended in the stratosphere above Swallow Falls, the FLDSMDFR began to "induce a molecular phase change from the vapor in the cumulonimbus layer" — in other words, it drew water from the surrounding clouds to fulfill Flint's most recent order of cheeseburgers.
Due to the immense supply of water, the FLDSMDFR was able to create a multitude of cheeseburgers, which began to rain from the sky upon the island. Sam Sparks declared the event the "greatest weather phenomenon in history" and broadcast news of the event on Weather News Network, while Mayor Shelbourne saw the event as an investment opportunity to revitalize the town.
Trivia
- The burger rain launches the second act of art direction for the film, with a color palette inspired by Edward Scissorhands.[1]
- Each part of the burger was modeled separately and bound them together using Rigid Body Dynamics (RBD), particularly the Soft Body Collision extension.[1]
